Hire a Fashion Buyer who builds ranges that sell through
A great buyer is part trader, part trend forecaster, part negotiator. They decide what you sell, at what price, and in what depth - and get it right more often than not.
About this role
Buyers own product selection and the buy - range planning, supplier sourcing and negotiation, open-to-buy management, margin, and trading the range through the season. In ecommerce-led brands, buyers work hand-in-hand with planning and the ecommerce team, using online sell-through and search data to buy sharper and react faster. Revere Recruitment places buying talent across fashion and lifestyle brands throughout Australia.

Key skills to look for
Commercial and trading instinct
The best buyers have a feel for what will sell — backed by data. They think in sell-through, margin, and rate of sale, not just product they personally like.
Range planning
Builds balanced, commercial ranges across price points and categories that fit the brand and the customer.
Supplier sourcing and negotiation
Strong supplier relationships and the negotiation skills to land the right product at the right cost and terms.
Open-to-buy and margin management
Comfortable managing OTB, intake, and margin — buying into demand without over-committing cash to stock.
Trend and customer insight
Reads trend and, crucially, the brand's own customer — translating both into a buy that performs.
Cross-functional trading
Works closely with planning, ecommerce, and marketing to trade the range in-season and react to what the data is saying.

FAQ
-
Buyers in Australia typically earn between $80,000 and $110,000 base salary, with Senior Buyers at $110,000–$145,000 and Heads of Buying more again. Assistant Buyers typically sit at $60,000–$75,000. The range depends on category, turnover owned, and team responsibility.
-
A Buyer decides what to buy - product, price, and range. A Planner decides how much, when, and where - depth, phasing, and allocation. They are two halves of the same trading engine and work in close partnership.
-
Increasingly valuable. Ecommerce buyers use online data — sell-through, search, returns — to buy more responsively. A strong retail or wholesale buyer can transfer, but ecommerce-native buyers ramp faster in a DTC business.
-
Most buying roles are filled within 4–8 weeks from briefing to accepted offer. Strong commercial buyers are in demand, so a clear brief and competitive package help you move quickly.
