Hire a Fashion Designer who turns your brand vision into product that sells
A great fashion designer does more than sketch. They translate your brand into ranges that customers actually buy, season after season — and in an ecommerce-led business, they design for the way people really shop online.
About this role
Fashion Designers own the creative direction of your product — researching trends, developing concepts, selecting fabrics and trims, building tech packs, and working with suppliers through to production. In ecommerce-first brands, the best designers also understand how product performs online: what photographs well, what converts, and how to read sell-through data to shape the next range. Revere Recruitment places fashion design talent across DTC and omnichannel brands throughout Australia.

Key skills to look for
Commercial design sense
The best designers balance creativity with commercial reality. They design ranges that express the brand and hit price points, margins, and the customer the business actually sells to.
Technical design and tech packs
Accurate, detailed tech packs are the difference between a clean sampling round and months of back-and-forth. Look for designers who can communicate construction clearly to suppliers.
Fabric, trim and construction knowledge
Strong fabric and trim knowledge — and an understanding of how garments are built — so designs are achievable, on-cost, and right for the category.
Trend research and range planning
Able to research and interpret trend, then translate it into a cohesive, commercial range that fits the brand and the season.
Supplier and sample management
Comfortable managing the critical path with local and offshore suppliers — sampling, fittings, approvals — to keep the range on time.
Design software
Fluent in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with PLM systems and 3D design tools (such as CLO) is increasingly valued, especially in ecommerce-led brands moving faster.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Fashion Designers in Australia typically earn between $70,000 and $110,000 base salary, with Senior and Lead Designers earning $110,000–$140,000 and Heads of Design more again. The range depends on the category, the size of the range they own, and whether the role includes team leadership.
-
It helps. Designers who have worked in ecommerce-led brands understand fast ranging, designing for online photography, and using sell-through data to inform decisions. That said, a strong commercial designer from a wholesale or retail background can transfer well — we'll be honest about the adjustment.
-
A Designer owns the creative and aesthetic direction of the range. A Product Developer (or Garment Technician) focuses on turning those designs into production-ready, well-fitting garments. In smaller brands one person may do both; in larger teams they are separate, complementary roles.
-
Most Fashion Designer roles are filled within 3–6 weeks from briefing to accepted offer. Strong commercial designers move quickly in the market, so a clear brief and a portfolio-led process help you secure the right person.
